About Jimmy

dsc_2867Jimmy MacCarthy is a lifelong conservationist with a special interest in terrestrial wildlife. Before starting the Master of Environmental Management (MEM) program at Duke, he worked for the Tropical Ecology Assessment and Monitoring Network at Conservation International, studying the impacts of climate and land-use change on communities of ground-dwelling mammals and birds in tropical forests across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Drawing on his extensive experience in the field, Jimmy led several wildlife monitoring workshops for protected area managers in Indonesia, Brazil, and China over the past few years and recently contributed a chapter to a textbook about wildlife research methods. In addition to his passion for wildlife conservation, Jimmy also enjoys playing soccer, exploring new hiking trails, biking around Durham, and pretty much anything else that gets him outside.
