Emily Myron and Sam Baraso will be interning with the African People and Wildlife Fund, at Noloholo Environmental Center, in rural Tanzania. They will be involved in a wide array of projects. First, they will assist with the administration of four weeks of summer camps for local Maasai children. They will evaluate the effectiveness of this program, as well as document the curriculum.
Secondly, they will help to put in place a wildlife monitoring system for the local people to use to keep track of the wildlife on their land. This will also require Emily and Sam to train members of the Maasai to use GPS units. Finally, Emily and Sam will conduct an analysis of landscape characteristics influencing livestock depredation by lions, hyena and leopards using GIS.
