Recently, we saw a bulk of cheetah photographs. Cheetahs may not be residents on Neuras<\/a>, but we know they pass through from time to time using the farm as a corridor in the larger landscape.<\/p>\n

When I saw the first sighting, I noticed something interesting on the time stamps in the bottom right corner of the photos.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cTwo cheetahs!\u201d I said. One walked by and then a minute later, a second one came into view.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think so,\u201d said Kate, peering over my shoulder. \u201cLook at the spot patterns on the left hind leg. That\u2019s the same cheetah.\u201d<\/p>\n

And so it was. The infrared flash from the camera must have startled the cheetah, and it froze for more than a minute trying to assess the situation before continuing on its way.<\/p>\n

Then I found a second sighting at a waterhole not far away.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI think there are two cheetahs,\u201d I told Matt. \u201cYou can just make out the eye of the second one behind the bush on the left.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think so,\u201d Matt replied. \u201cIt\u2019s too tall and it lacks a carnivore\u2019s binocular vision. That\u2019s the kudu that was drinking there a few minutes ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

I kept looking through photos and found another sighting:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m telling you, there are two cheetahs,\u201d I said when I found this third sighting. \u201cOne walks by the waterhole and a minute later, a second one appears.\u201d But all I got in reply was a raised eyebrow. The first photo wasn\u2019t clear enough to differentiate the spot patterns.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust wait,\u201d I said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to see two cheetahs.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few days later we collected another round of memory cards:<\/p>\n
