{"id":656,"date":"2012-04-15T22:26:43","date_gmt":"2012-04-15T22:26:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nicholas.duke.edu\/gulfofca\/?p=656"},"modified":"2014-03-05T10:56:56","modified_gmt":"2014-03-05T15:56:56","slug":"cosme-the-great","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nicholas.duke.edu\/gulfofca\/cosme-the-great\/","title":{"rendered":"Cosme the Great"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several pounds and hundreds of tortillas later we&#8217;re back in North Carolina fondly remembering our trip to Sonora, Mexico.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been contemplating the topic on which I\u2019d like to blog and while those excellent two weeks were filled with unforgettable memories of whales, dolphins, birds, sea lions, cacti, and a few scorpions, I can\u2019t help but remember the countless individuals who made our trip possible. I\u2019d love to write about them all but in the interest of keeping your attention, I will stick to one person who kept us safe on the water and captured our hearts. Cosme is a native of Kino and has been a fisherman in the area most of his life.\u00a0 Cosme taught us about life at sea and showed us historical and current fishing areas for certain species. In addition, Cosme and his wife Monica \u2013 affectionately known as Moni and equally great \u2013 taught us the art of a fish taco and more importantly homemade tortillas. His jokes and his kind manner are on par with his seafaring abilities. He is charming, and he\u2019s the only person I know who can pull off the Chuck Norris mullet spectacularly! He\u2019s proud of the resemblance \u2013 see photo.
