For our own version of CSI — not “crime scene investigation” but “climate science investigation” or “crack sight investigation” — we have an unidentified photo to put your visual perspicacity to the test.

A. fissures in sea ice floating in the Arctic Ocean

B. cracked pavement in downtown Melbourne from the July 2009 heat wave

C. surficial cracks in coal slurry drying in a waste pond in West Virginia

D. fractured glass in New England caused by unusually warm temperatures June 2009
