About Jack

Jack BeuttellJack Beuttell is a second-year student in the MBA/MEM joint degree program with concentrations in Entrepreneurship and Ecosystem Science and Conservation, respectively.

After receiving his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in 2003, Jack worked in marketing, finance, and sustainability for Hines, the international real estate firm. In his role as Global Sustainability Manager, Jack directed the firm’s strategy and program development for green building certifications (LEED/ENERGY STAR), and tenant and employee sustainability programs.

Jack spent the summer between his first and second years at Duke pursuing an original venture in sustainable agriculture.  He and his business partner, a second-year Fuquan, were recipients of the Duke Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) Seed Prize in February, 2012.  They were also finalists in the International Impact Investing Challenge in April, 2012.  Jack is currently working with Jesko von Windheim, Professor of the Practice of Environmental Entrepreneurship, to design a student group around the Nicholas School’s new certificate program in environmental entrepreneurship.
Jack has traveled to 27 countries on six continents and is looking for a good excuse to visit Antarctica. He loves people, is an outdoor enthusiast, a musician and, generally speaking, an optimist.
