Caves Ouvertes

The winemakers in the Geneva region open their doors for a day of free wine tasting.

Every summer, the wineries surrounding Geneva open their doors and offer free wine tastings to the public. Not only is a great business strategy from the wine makers perspective but its also the perfect opportunity for locals and visitors to experience the quaint towns around the city. The transportation service in Geneva runs free shuttles throughout the villages (presumably to discourage drunk driving, very smart!).

Swiss wines are actually quite amazing, there is not that much of a difference between the geology or climate of eastern France and that found around Geneva. It is said that the Swiss make wine that is just as good as the French, only they consume almost all of it, only exporting about 2%. I am no wine expert, but what I tasted this weekend was pretty amazing.

  1. Hope you’re having fun with all of the “work” you’re doing in Geneva. Interesting stuff.
