2017 Description & Itinerary

In this course we will examine the challenges associated with the conservation of marine biodiversity, focusing on issues on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Oahu is viewed by many visitors as a pristine tropical paradise, but its ecology has been greatly modified by several waves of human settlement and development. We will examine a series of current marine conservation issues, with each student leading discussion of a specific case study. We will spend time in the field and meet stakeholders and scientists and managers from NOAA and the State of Hawaii.
